Abbé Charles-Michal de l'Épée deserves a commendation for creating the very first alphabet sign language to help the deaf communicate. I feel very thankful to him because sign language has found me a best friend.
Elaine is a deaf and mute girl yet she's the one who hears me well and talks to me well. Our friendship started when we were young girls. I was fascinated by sign language and asked her to teach me. She first taught me the alphabet sign language. For how many weeks, I learned and memorized the alphabet sign language. Little by little, I mastered it and communication became easier. Until today, I still use the alphabet sign language to talk to her.
Surprisingly, despite the big difference we have, our friendship flourished and deepened. To her I share my deepest secrets with no worries. Whenever I feel left alone, I can always be assured that I'll find companionship with her. I will forever thank God for giving her to me.
Elaine is now graduating in college and I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate her in her achievement. This is also the perfect time to thank her for the wonderful friendship we have shared together through the years. Our relationship overcame the biggest obstacle possible in a friendship.
